I recently talked to Sarina Mitchel of Providence, Rhode Island about her career as a freelance fine artist and illustrator. Her current series of paintings began with the concept of magnifying scientific data with bursts of blue and gold paint and involve CNC routing.

Ever since she was a small child, Sarina Mitchel wanted to be a painter. She recalls being asked to do other things as a kid, like join the safety patrol, or try out a sport, but Mitchel found herself always saying, “No, I just wanna be in the art program.”

“I never saw myself as anything other than an artist. Art was always so much more tangible than anything else I learned or did. There is a certain magic in creating something from nothing, in creating a universe of your own making,” said Mitchel.
Here’s a short artist talk I did at the Warwick Center for the Arts in 2020. I had 3 pieces accepted into their juried show, the “34th Annual Rhode Island Open.”
